The hidden dangers of comparing yourself to others

It’s easy to make comparisons between yourself and other people when you’re constantly being faced by their successes and achievements.

Social media has certainly made it easier for you to make these comparisons, because you’re constantly up in what everyone else is doing, no longer satisfied with your own life.

But even before social media became such a huge part of your lifethis social comparison has always been present.

Your childhood classroom was plastered with stickers and charts that covered every wall. These tracked your progress over the academic year, yet something like a reading chart would influence your behaviour.

When taking part in a reading challenge that rewarded you for the number of books you complete in a week, how would you go about deciding what to read?

Some of your classmates might pick the shortest books available, because they know they’ll take less time to complete and they crave that instant reward. You choose a bigger book because you want to immerse yourself in the story.

However, by the end of the week your chart remains bare, because you’ve taken your time to read that big book. Everyone else has loads more stickers on their chart. This is demoralising—being faced with their achievements in comparison to your own.

But how does this scenario relate to your own journey into Celtic Reiki Mastery?

From an early age we’ve been marked and measured against other people. Our competitiveness with others diminishes the value of our own progress. We’re encouraged to put quick wins ahead of the lasting value we create.

When you think back to the reading challenge, picking the shortest book with the quickest read just to get points on a chart has no real value in comparison to a bigger book that you really invest time into.

Put this into perspective in your own life—how have you been competing with others for superficial satisfaction?

What do you need to do to create depth and meaning in your life?

To achieve the most value and satisfaction from Celtic Reiki, you’ll have to go deep—taking your time searching for what’s hidden and not feeling pressured into following the pace of others.

Remember, everyone is on their own path, and where some people take long rides, it’s more valuable for you to keep a steady pace.

Ultimately, recognising your achievements and celebrating your progress is far more beneficial than looking over your shoulder at what others are doing.
